We're Hiring!

Milo Library has received a 2023 Canada Summer Jobs grant for a library aide.

Are you between 15-30 years old and looking for a fun job for the summer?

Duties will be 35 hours/week throughout July and August at $17.50/hour, including:

  • Running the Summer Reading Program for 4-12-year-olds
  • Routine library tasks
  • Assisting in the archives

Computer skills are necessary

Milo Library Book Club is a literary-genre social club for adults. Meetings are held once per month, usually on a Monday evening at 7pm. Members take turns hosting the meetings, either in their home or at the library. The host chooses the book from Chinook Arch's Book Club Kits selection. New members are always welcome!

Milo Library is a brown building with brick at the bottom and a red roof. Stairs lead up to the entrance and there is outdoor seating in front.

1981 Oct. 7th - The Village of Milo passed a by-law, creating the Milo Municipal Library.
1983 - Milo Municipal Library opened its doors to the public.
1992 - The Library joined the Chinook Arch Regional Library System.
1995 - The Library began its online circulation services along with the other System libraries.
1996 Nov. 28th - Friends of Milo Municipal Library Society was incorporated.
1999 - Full Internet services were obtained through Chinook Arch and made available for the community to access. The Library became a member of The Alberta Library.
2006 - The Library Board began construction of the new library building on Main street Milo. 
2007 - The name of the library was officially shortened from "Milo Municipal Library" to simply "Milo Library".
2007 Nov. 22nd - Milo Library moved from the school to our brand new Library on Center Street.
2011 - Virtual tour of Milo Library was created by Cam Klem in January.
2011 - New Milo Library logo was created by Barb Godkin in May.
2011 - Milo Lions Archivist Fellowship was created to start digitizing contents of the Friends of the Milo Municipal Library Archive Room.
2013 - Milo Library Archives became an official member of the Archives Society of Alberta.
2014 - 2016 - Milo Library Archives was able to hire a professional archivist for the summer months.

Chinook Arch Regional Library System card holders have access to nearly 1,000,000 physical items, over 30,000 downloadable ebooks, audiobooks, and movies, 20,000 digital magazines and newspapers, and online courses.

Items at any library in the system can be delivered to your local library by placing a hold. Items borrowed at one library can be returned at any Chinook Arch member library.

Annual Membership Rates

  • Adult: $10
  • Family: $20
  • Juvenile: $4

Lending Periods

  • Print items: loaned for 3 weeks, with two renewals
  • DVDs and videotapes: loaned for 7 days, with two renewals

Charges for Overdue Items

  • Books: $0.10 per item, per library open day, to a maximum of $5
  • DVDs and videotapes: $0.50 per item, per library open day, to a maximum of $5

Print Disabilities

If you have impairments of sight or hearing, the inability to hold or manipulate a book, or a disability relating to reading comprehension, you can ask your local library staff about being registered as a patron with print disabilities. Chinook Arch offers library patrons with print disabilities access to information in formats including:

  • Large print books
  • Audiobooks
  • DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System) CDs
  • ebooks with resizable text
  • Descriptive video
  • Braille

Additional materials can be accessed from the National Network of Equitable Library Service (NNELS) and the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA).

The National Network of Equitable Library Service maintains an online collection of downloadable audiobooks and other accessible formats. Once you are registered with your library as a patron with print disabilities, you can download free content from the NNELS catalogue.

CELA

The Centre for Equitable Library Access maintains a collection of books, magazines, newspapers, videos, audiobooks, and ebooks in accessible formats. To register as a CELA patron, ask for help at your home library or register here. Once you are registered, you can download titles to your computer or mobile device, download books to a DAISY player, or receive audio CDs, Braille books, or described movies through the mail.

Library to You (L2U) is a free service for people who have mobility or access barriers to visiting a public library. You can sign up for L2U with your Chinook Arch member library card, and receive up to six books at a time, delivered to your home in a postage-paid mailbag. When you’re done reading, simply mail the books back in the bag.

To register, complete this form and send it to your local library. Chinook Arch will submit your request to Marigold Library System, the administrators of L2U.

Online Privacy and Access to Information Statement

Introduction

Chinook Arch Regional Library System is a collaborative network public libraries in southwestern Alberta. This statement addresses your online privacy and access to information through the Chinook Arch Integrated Library System (ILS) and website.

The Chinook Arch Library System is subject to the Libraries Act and Regulation R.S.A. 2000 Chap. L-11 and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP), and uphold the Canadian Federation of Library Associations’ (CFLA) Statement on Intellectual Freedom and Libraries.

The Chinook Arch Library Board’s bylaws and policies are publicly available, including its Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) bylaw and Information Technology policy.

Collection and Disclosure of Personal Information

The System only collects the amount of personal information needed to conduct library services and programs. Personally identifiable information contained in the patron record may include:

  • Name

  • Address

  • Phone number(s)

  • Email address

Inactive patron records are purged after two years.

The System does not collect personal information for commercial marketing or distribution to private organizations. The System will only disclose personal information:

a. to law enforcement in response to a court order, such as a warrant, subpoena, or other legal compulsion.

b. in partnership with other Alberta libraries and library systems for the purposes of sharing materials under conditions defined in existing resource sharing agreements and programs (e.g. interlibrary loan agreements, TAL Card, ME Libraries), collecting fees or fines, and retrieving borrowed materials.

Tracking and Security

Cookies – When you visit a website it may deposit a piece of data, called a web cookie, with the temporary web browser files on your computer. If you wish, you can change the settings on your web browser to deny cookies, or to warn you when a site is about to deposit cookies on your hard drive.

Encryption – The System’s website links patrons to their My Library. This service uses encryption during the login process/transmission of a patron’s login information.

eResources – The System subscribes to various databases found under the eLibrary tab of the System’s and our libraries’ websites. The administrative software of the databases may identify individual patron barcodes with specific titles read, however the System only uses the information anonymously to aggregate usage by patron’s registered library. The System does not analyze individual patron usage. Users may read the databases’ privacy policies on their home pages.

External Links – The System’s website links to other websites and eResources that may collect personal information. Users should review the privacy policies of these sites before providing them with personal data.

Reading History – Patrons can save their reading histories if they so desire. These lists are private unless the patron chooses to share them, and the System will not share these lists, except when in response to a law enforcement court order, such as a warrant, subpoena, or other legal compulsion.

Usage Statistics – The System uses Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to discover usage of the System’s and our libraries’ websites. Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity use cookies. Users may read Google Analytics’ and Microsoft Clarity policies on their respective websites.

Parental Responsibility for Minors

Chinook Arch does not act in loco parentis. Parents and legal guardians take responsibility for what their children access on and through the System’s website. No age restrictions or filters apply to the System’s databases, eLibrary, or links to external sites.

Programs and Events

Online Forms and Electronic Communication with System Staff – The System may provide online forms for facilitating services or resource acquisition suggestions. These forms will require some user personal information. The System will gather only the personal information necessary to facilitate the registration or request, and the personal information will not be used for any other purpose. Personal information provided to System staff through any other electronic communications, such as email, text, etc. will be used only to facilitate the request submitted.

Photographs – The System posts a regular newsletter to its website, which may contain photographs from its Board’s activities or its member libraries’ public programs and events. Attendees should speak to System or Library staff in advance if they do not wish to have photographs of themselves appear in the System’s newsletter.

Social Media

The System may provide access to social media. Users posting comments to the System’s social media should be aware of the public nature of such posts and of their responsibility to exercise caution when sharing personally identifiable information over social media.
